Common: | African malaria mosquito (German: afrikanische Malariamücke) |
Comment: | Anopheles gambiae is the primary vector that transmits human malaria, a disease that causes an estimated 200 million clinical cases and more than one million deaths annually. In order to eradicate malaria, the mosquito vector has become a target for study, since vector control has been a more attainable goal than anti-malarial drug treatments. |
